{April 4, 2009}   Top 10 fictional couples

So you’re sitting in the living room, munching on a popcorn kernel, and suddenly, you turn into mush and start smiling/crying hysterically at two people saying heart bending stuff to each other on the screen. Don’t blame yourself, it happens to the best of us. Well, here are a few of my favourite fictional couples, in no particular order.

1) Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett (Pride and Prejudice) :

One of the best classics ever, the best part of this story was the lead couple Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett. This is one of those timeless pairs which makes you feel all mushy inside. The enemies-at-first twist makes this an interesting read and an even better movie to watch. The great part is that there are lots of misunderstandings, but they are all sorted out eventually, not all at once by waving a magic wand. Some people may call it slow-paced, I say it’s realistic. Of course, it does help that the actors who’ve played Darcy so far (Colin Firth and Matthew McFayden) are drop- dead gorgeous.

2) Edward Cullen and Bella Swan/Cullen (Twilight) :

One of today’s most well known and loved couples, words can hardly begin to describe Edward and Bella. I can’t do justice to Edward and Bella without writing atleast five pages, which I’m sure most of you guys wouldn’t have the patience to read. Of course, there are probably two reasons why everyone loves Edward and Bella. First, Edward’s a vampire. Second, he’s every girl’s dream. If you’re looking slighly sceptical and/or just raised your eyebrow, you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of years. Besides, who can resist a vampire/human romance? Certainly not me.

3) Kevin Doyle and Jane Nichols (27 Dresses) :

This was one of those couples that just made me sigh and turn into a puddle of mush on the floor. Jane’s character was just incredible, and unlike most lead heroines of girl movies, she wasn’t just a giggly, popular blonde who gets all the guys. Another case of not noticing what’s right in front of you, Jane, the perpetual bridesmaid is totally smitten by her boss who takes her for granted way too much, and isn’t even good enough eye candy (atleast, that’s what I think!). Then, Kevin comes along, the sweet, nice, gorgeous, awesome, incredible, breath-taking (okay, i think you guys get it) author who’s completely head over heals in love with Jane, and sees her for what she really is. This movie was completely awesome, don’t miss it! Of course, you can just watch it for Jane and Kevin!

4) Ferdinand and Miranda (The Tempest- William Shakespeare) :

I fell in love with this story the day I read it in school, and just had to buy the unabridged version the very next day. It had everything- action, drama, humour in the form of Ariel and Caliban and of course, the perfect couple- Ferdinand and Miranda. Frankly speaking, I liked Ferdinand and Miranda better than Romeo and Juliet. *dodges rotten tomatoes* Anyway, this story is just one of those that touches your heart, and it was written centuries ago, which makes it even more amazing. The plot is just incredible, and Fernando and Miranda are more than just the typical star crossed lovers from rival families. The idea of the storm is really a stroke of genius, and the way Ferdinand and Miranda meet and help each other out is great. I just loved the part when they played chess together quietly. It actually made me cry, which is pretty rare.

5) Nicholas Devereaux and Mia Thermopolis (Princess Diaries II) :

Another really cute couple, Nicholas and Mia are wonderful together as soon as they’re introduced, although Mia is engaged to another guy at the time, and remains so almost throughout the movie. The forbidden, enemies-at-first part of the Nicholas/Mia ship makes this movie really interesting. The most touching part was when Nicholas finally realises that he’s in love with Mia, but then Mia thinks he’s stealing her crown because of something his uncle did. It was terrible, but touching. And of course, the parts in the beginning where Nicholas and Mia are found in a closet and later in a fountain, dripping wet are just hilarious, especially the way their intentions are misunderstood. This movie is another must watch, so don’t miss it! Again, you can watch it just for Nicholas and Mia. It does help that Chris Pine played Nicholas ;) !!!!

6) Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley (Harry Potter) :

This is one of those couples that just doesn’t need an introduction. The sparks between them were blaringly obvious ever since Chamber of Secrets, when Harry saved Ginny from a basilisk (giant snake- long story), which seemed like a Potterish version of the traditional battle of the strong, handsome prince and the dragon in order to win the gorgeous lady’s fragile heart. However, this was not quite so male chauvinist, thank god for that. There are, of course, times when you want to bang a teapot on harry’s head for not noticing Ginny when she was right in front of him. Harry and Ginny are just one of those pairs that are meant to be together. Wow, that sounds cheesy! Well, you’ll understand when you read Half Blood Prince and melt to the floor in a puddle of jelly. Ew, that sounds gross. Anyway, the best part of this couple was definitely when Harry was jealous that Ginny was moving on, and actually felt an angry green monster of jealousy inside him. So cute.

7) John Thornton and Margaret Hale (North and South) :

When I first heard about this BBC movie, my first thought was- too much like Pride and Prejudice. It was only when I watched this movie a week later that I realised how wrong I was. This is definitely my favourite classic movie for one sole reason- John and Margaret. Two totally different and yet similar people, both with strong, independant personalities, from opposite corners of 19th century England, John and Margaret just touch your heart as soon as they enter. This is a simple, realistic story, and Margaret is a real(istic) woman with real problems. The way Thornton helps her deal with her mother’s illness and her parent’s eventual death really makes me wonder why men aren’t made that way anymore. Thornton truly is every girl’s dream, and although Margarent is stupidly ignorant of the fact at first, she does see it eventually. This pair’ll leave you craving for more of 19th century England the moment you see them on screen and sigh. Don’t miss it!

8) WALL-E and EVE (WALL-E) :

This is definitely one of the cutest and most outrageous couples on my list. I fell in love with WALL-E as soon as I caught a glimpse of him in the the trailers. I was bawling like a baby during most parts of this movie, because some of WALL-E and EVE’s scenes were just so touching! The best part of the movie was that it had no dialogues. Only incredible animation could make that a success, and WALL-E’s animation truly was just that- incredible. This couple created an uncomplicated, innocent, simple, yet deep and powerful bond. A must- watch; you can watch it just to hear WALL-E say EVE in that slow, cute way of his!

9)  Angel and Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) :

Another forbidden romance, Buffy and Angel are great from the first season to the very last, although they break-up a lot. The Angel/Faith parts were really wrong, while Spike/Buffy just didn’t tick. Of course, the fact that Angel is a vampire and Buffy is his ultimate enemy, the Slayer, makes it all the more interesting. One little thing that I loved about Angel/Buffy was the difference in their heights. It was just so cute when Buffy had to stand on tiptoes to hug Angel. The first few of their scenes were just hilarious, when Angel pretended to be “A Friend” and kept giving Buffy advice on how to deal with vampires. It got more serious when she found out that he was a vampire who was cursed with a soul and finally killed (or staked him through the heart, whatever) him. He came back, of course. :D

10) Leo Wyatt and Piper Halliwell (Charmed) :

Like most of the best romantic tales in literature, Piper and Leo’s story began as forbidden love. He was a Whitelighter and she was a Witch, and his charge. They were supposed to have a professional relationship. No strings attached. Of course, the breaking of this rule was inevitable. Piper and Leo are the only couple who last throughout the series, finally getting married in Season Six and giving birth to two sons who would grow up to be the most powerful beings on earth- Chris (swoon!!!) and Wyatt Halliwell. Of course, many other couples on Charmed lasted for two or more seasons, for instance- Phoebe and Cole, who were… well, steamy. But it ended with Cole going to hell (literally) and Phoebe marrying Coop (swoon again!!), a Cupid in Season Six.

Well, I guess that’s it. Please let me know if you liked it by posting a comment! Sorry if I’ve missed out on any other great couples, and a virtual cookie to those who comment :) !

{January 15, 2009}   Back in British Council

It’s been quite some time since I last updated, and even more since I last went to British Council (the awesome library I was talking about earlier.) And guess what? Yep, I’m finally here again. I just love this place. I got 5 books for myself and 3 for my sister ( HA! Serves her right for not bringing me here here earlier) Anyway, the books  I got are quite interesting, and they’ll probably keep me occupied till sunday (thank GOD for that, I thought I was going to die of boredom if I didn’t find something to do soon.) I also got two Charmed books which are based on the hit TV series also called Charmed ie. my favorite TV series ever. Getting back to the library, there are a few men around me who seem really serious and all, and two rows across from me are a few guys of my age,  doing…… what on their computers? Three guesses. That’s right.. the only thing that boys do in here is play computer games. I prefer doing more interesting stuff like blogging. This is the only time I can actually write without having to search for something to write about. I just need to look around and I find something to write about. I could stay here till 5 in the evening, but I never do, because of my cold. And I don’t like staying anywhere except in bed with a hot drink when my nose is red and running. I ESPECIALLY don’t like staying in an air conditioned library during said incident. Okay I’m going to go surf a little now. Will write back later. Adios for now, amigo!

{December 23, 2008}   Long time

It’s been SO long since I last updated… almost 3 months. Well, miss boring here still doesn’t have as much news as you would expect after 3 months of not boring the web sick.  Here’s the new stuff-

1) I got the twilight movie- a few weeks ago and the twilight book- for my bday

2) The BIG day… (ew.. for those who thought otherwise, I mean MY BIRTHDAY.)

3) My half yearly exams are finally over, and I can finally get away from those cursed textbooks. Finally.

4) A few minutes ago, I finished a completely awesome book called Maximum Ride- Saving the world and Other Extreme Sports, which is the third of a trilogy by James Patterson, and also has a really cute pair of teenagers, Max and Fang (Yeah those are their names.. Max is the girl and Fang is the guy… they’re mutants- half humans- half birds who save the world from a wicked world domination plan hatched by their creators. )Yep. I like these kinda books. So what?

5) I found a really great song by Kelly Clarkson- Because of you (that’s the name of the song, in case you’re really dumb (no offence) and didn’t figure it out

6) I won the second prize in a sports competition at school. BIG surprise. I knew I was okay at sports.. I just never got a chance to participate.

7) I read Tales of Beedle the Bard (another book by J.K. Rowling, for all the people living under a rock in the Sahara for the past 6 months)

Well, that’s most of what’s happened. Someday, years from now, I’m going to have something really interesting to write about. Till then, right on with the boredom! Anyways I can’t stop thinking about the girl (Max) in the book I mentioned earlier. I think she must be one of my favourite fictional characters after Edward and Renesmee Cullen from Twilight (Stephenie Meyer). Max is one of the strongest characters I’ve ever seen, even more than Melanie Stryder from SM’s’ Host’. Her full name is somewhat unusual- Maximum. I guess that’s something to do with her… species. Fang, on the other hand is just Fang. They have a sort of coven of other people like them and they’re like a family. The group looks like human teenagers from ages 8 (the youngest, Angel) to 14 (the eldest, Max and Fang) but they’ve got wings. Angel’s the only one with powers other than flying- she can read, and sometimes control human minds. The story is exciting and with twists and turns on every one of its 133 chapters and 403 pages. It’s a must read. God, I sound like a book review. Anyways I’m now off to search for more of James Patterson’s books online. Catch ya later.

{September 7, 2008}   Goa, and a poem after a long time

It’s really late, and I should probably be in bed, ready for my social exam tomorrow, but I just had to write about something. I just remembered something when I was looking out of the window. I stayed in Goa for two years when I was very young, barely 6, and don’t really remember much. But I have flashes sometimes, especially when I hear some songs, which I had first heard in Goa. I just had one like that, and wrote a poem, subconsciously. I didn’t even see what I was writing. Been a long while since I wrote a poem. Anyways I’m posting it here.

I’m sitting by the window,

Looking out at the grey skies and busy street

My mind wanders

And I feel something stir

In my farthest memories

I close my eyes

I’m in another time and place

I see clear blue skies,

Going on as far as I can see

I see green fields and meadows

When I walk a distance,

I see a beach

The waves gently caressing the smooth white sand

Palm trees swaying in the breeze

My heart’s the only thing that’s beating

It was a place I had once lived in years ago

And had to leave when I too young to understand,

That I was in heaven

Something pushed back to the edge of my memories

By the meaningless hustle of busy life

When I open my eyes,

I’m back in hell

Why do all good things come to an end?

{September 5, 2008}   TWILIGHT!!!!!

I have LOADS to talk about. Actually, it’s just one thing, but I wanna talk about it a lot. Its- Twilight. I got a new favourite book along with Harry Potter!! It’s written by Stephanie Meyers, and totally rocks! I’ve been reading it for the past three nights, ever since I got copy online from a friend, and I love it. As much as I love Harry Potter. It’s basically a tale of a romance between a girl called Isabella (Bella) Swan and Edward Cullen (eeeeee!!! I LOVE him!!! He’s totallyy swoon worthy, the way Meyers has described him), a vampire. Edward… hmm… can’t even begin to describe him… he’s the ideal guy- um, vampire. He’s MUCH better than ANY perfect fictional guy, including Jesse DeSilva (ghost) from mediator, Angelus (another rocking vamp from Buffy), Spike (again, vamp from Buffy) , Michael Moscovitz from Princess Diaries (sadly human) or even the charming Mr. Darcy (sadly again, human) from Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen (another must read, if you haven’t read it yet). Well, reading Twilight, getting absorbed in it as I once got in Harry Potter, (and never expected to get again, specially this soon), was awesome, and I was almost crying when I finished it right now. Thankfully, two more books have already come out, and I’m going to buy BOTH as soon as I get the chance. Seriously.. if this was the end, I would have DIED! Anyway, back to Edward, he’s so awesome! And the way Meyers has described the gradual strangers-to-friends-to- something more’ incline of the Bella-Edward ship just had me absorbed in the book! And, of course, a perfect, swoon worthy, awesome looking, lead with a perfect character DOES have a very major role in my loving the book. And, any book I read with a male character, I keep thinking, “He’s okay, but he’s not Edward” . And I found an online community for Edward (TRUST me, there are many… around 2000) with an apt title, “I have trouble dealing with the fact that Edward Cullen is just fictional.” Me too, pal, me too.

{September 1, 2008}   Stupid day

Today was just plain terrible. I woke up feeling and looking awful, my throat hurting and all, and to complete the vision of perfection, I had a fever. So I stayed home and missed a practical exam. Life sucks. So right now, I’m sitting in a 34ºC temperature and shivering. Yeah, pathetic I know. And I’m totally nervous, cuz my best friend is busy. Studying. As usual. And its making me nervous. As usual. And the exams are on this monday. And I don’t know a thing. As usual. I’m going to barely avoid flunking. As usual. I HATE AS USUAL. And, I’m talking rubbish. Damn this fever. Its making me say weird stuff. I would just ♥ to go into a coma right now. It would be so cool. Much better than this stupid, week, year, whatever. Away from talks about stupid life (or not), I was wondering just when life started to go downhill. Just two words- High School. I wasn’t so pathetic before high school. Well, then its not life, but high schol that totally sucks. Fever does too. And exams do too. Atleast the weather’s good. I haven’t talked to anyone in a DAY and i’m damn bored. I can’t talk to anyone because they’ve all got their noses buried in a stupid school book. They really don’t know how to enjoy life. Not that there’s anything enjoyable about it, but still. No one else online. Jerks are probably busy studying. I didn’t go to tution today either. I hope that lady doesn’t kick me out. That would just prove how really pathetic my life is.

PS: No, I’m not going to apologise for moaning. Just wanted to add this foot note-

Times I used the word pathetic-3… just shows how pathetic everything is.

{August 27, 2008}   Boring week

I haven’t been able to write for SO long!! I’ve been really busy with school, and the little time I got to stay online, I couldn’t write a fully-fledged entry. Anyways, I’ve been busy with the Science Practical exams going on mostly. I also wrote an National Exam conducted by some organisation in Australia today, which I write every year. It’s real fun usually, but Science was terrible today. Maths, for a change, was good! I usually get Participation (that’s the Australian way of saying- HA! LOSER!) in maths cuz it’s not my best subject. That would be English. Or my good subject. That would be Computer. Or my okay subject. But whatever. I did well this time, and that’s what counts, right? Okay lets get away from the boring exam talk. My hands stank worse than rotten eggs the entire day in school after the Chemistry practicals. I had to do an experiment with sulphur, and trust me, sulphur has a puke-inducing smell. The only worse smell I’ve ever smelt is of Ammonia in lab last year. I was all enthusiastic, and took a large sniff. Almost fainted and sneezed for the next 2 days, AND I couldn’t get the dratted smell out of my nose. Needless to say, I’ve never been enthusiastic to smell anything after that. Gosh… I feel really weird! I’m having weird thoughts! I’m blogging about CHEMISTRY! Must be too many of those fumes.

{August 12, 2008}   Disgusting week

This week’s one of the worst one’s of my life, and it’s only JUST started. Today was the worst. First, I found out I wasn’t a Prefect as many people had told me I would be. I don’t care a LOT about that because anything good can’t happen to me, and this was too good to be true… I still felt a little bad, but I did a very intelligent thing by listening to Binai (my sis, Binaifer). She had told me not to put too many hopes as she had into this prefect and school house crap, and I love her for saying that because I took her advice, even if it was just a little (I wish I’d believed her completely, it wouldn’t have hurt even this much if I had)… I would have broken if I had hoped TOO much for it, thankfully I kinda knew it wouldn’t happen, so I dont feel very bad now… The second stupid incident- I had to write this story for English and I STAYED UP FOR MOST OF LAST NIGHT and wrote that dirty piece of crap for the even more disgusting teacher, and I thought it was quite good. Apparently not for Miss-No-one-is-perfect-but-me. She said it was “good but not very interesting”. Jerkette. Anyways, I hope I’m going to get through this week in one piece. I feel like screaming and tearing all all my hair out. Damned week. Waiting eagerly for the weekend. In fact even friday is okay because its Independence day, which means its a holiday. Only prefects, house captains and house vices have to attend to get their badges. Whatever.

{July 28, 2008}   An interesting day

Today was an interesting day. And, interesting does NOT necessarily mean good, although certain parts of the day were. It started out as a pretty boring day, and I was waiting for the last class of school to get over so I could take part in this Essay competition. Problem? You bet. It’s MY life, so there’s gotta be a problem. The last class was Art. Here, I must tell you that I was, am and will forever be an artistic disaster/artistically challenged/whatever. Usually Art classes are terrible, and this one was worse than terrible. It all began with some people at school insulting my pigeon. Omg this sounds so funny now! I was drawing this pigeon, and I’d totally messed it up (as usual). The guys at school were laughing, and I was half laughing too. Playfully, I dipped my brush in red paint and waved it threateningly over everyone. BIG mistake. The paint splashed on no one but ME. My uniform had large spots of red paint, but they weren’t really bad. Then I made another gigantic mistake. I tried to wash it out, thinking it was watercolor and would come out easily (what the hell do they put in water colors these days?!). It spread to what was left white on my uniform. Now, I was red and wet. I would have laughed it off on any other day, bu I had the competition. I got some unexpected help and encouragement to go on with the competition from a girl in my class, Dhivya, who I never really talked to earlier. I was really embarrassed and hid my uniform every second. But I did the competition well. I got home, rang the doorbell, and yelled “Surprise!” sarcastically pointing at my uniform. Mom almost fainted. Then the reprimanding began. It didn’t last for a long time thankfully. (sigh) People are going to laugh about this for sometime. Although I admit it seems really funny now. I wish I could see my expression when I noticed the paint! I was mortified then, but now I can understand why everyone found it so hilarious! Anyway, the weather’s great and it’s just stopped raining. It’s really weird.. rain at this time of the year. This is supposed to be summer, but, I’m not complaining! Okay it’s 840 now and I’m gonna go read a good book and then go to bed, waiting for tomorrow and wondering what weird stuff is gonna happen!

Hey, It’s me again! I haven’t been able to write lately… didn’t have time. Anyway, the weather’s been incredible lately, all cloudy, just the way I love it! This weekend was good, except for the fact that I saw an utterly disgusting movie called Made of Honor. It was truly terrible and I still can’t believe I saw it! Gosh, I just can’t stop staring out the window, it’s all dark even though it’s just 3:30 pm!! Oh, and before I forget, I listened to this song a few days back during a movie’s title roll, and I fell in love with it. The lyrics are so inspiring and the song, just perfect. Here are the lyrics of Get Up- Superchick
____________________________________________________________________________________
I’m not afraid to fall
It means I climbed up high
To fall is not to fail
You fail when you don’t try
I’m not afraid to fall
I might just learn to fly and
I will spread these wings of mine

Chorus:
If I get up I might fall back down again
So let’s get up come on
If I get up I might fall back down again
We get up anyway
If I get up I might fall back down again
So let’s get up come on
If I get up I might fall back down again
And I might fall back down again
We’ll just jump and see, even if it’s the 20th time
we’ll just jump and see if we can fly

I’m not afraid to fall
And hear I told you so
Don’t want to rock the boat
But I just had to know
Just a greener side
Or can I touch the sky
But either way I will have tried

If I get up I might fall back down again
So let’s get up come on
If I get up I might fall back down again
We get up anyway
If I get up I might fall back down again
So let’s get up come on
If I get up I might fall back down again
And I might fall back down again
We’ll just jump and see, even if it’s the 30th time
We’ll just jump and see if we can fly

I’m not afraid to fall
I’ve fallen many times
They laughed when I fell down
But I have dared to climb
I’m not afraid to fall
I know I’ll fall again
But I can win this in the end

If I get up I might fall back down again
So let’s get up come on
If I get up I might fall back down again
We get up anyway
If I get up I might fall back down again
So let’s get up come on
If I get up I might fall back down again
And I might fall back down again
We’ll just jump and see, even if it’s the 40th time
We’ll just jump and see if we can fly

If I get up I might fall back down again
So let’s get up come on
If I get up I might fall back down again
We get up anyway
If I get up I might fall back down again
So let’s get up come on
If I get up I might fall back down again
And I might fall back down again

. I just can’t stop listening to this song. It’s totally incredible! With much better lyrics than any
other song I’ve heard. UGH! I can’t stop thinking about Made of Honor. I’m going to lose faith in movies if I watch 2-3 more of these kinda movies! Oh my gosh it just started raining!!!!!!!! And it’s all stormy and crazy, again, just the way I like it! Okay now I’m going to go to the window and enjoy it. Will write again later!
